Genealogy your Passion?
Well, then don’t you dare miss our next annual meeting. We will be gathering in LaGrange, Georgia visiting historic Troup County Archives, where all of our Callaway Family Association information is stored.
Come spend some time touring the archives and researching your own Callaway line.
Highlights of our 50th Celebration
And what a celebration it was! Almost 60 Callaway Family Association members attended the party in Nashville, Tennessee, October 16 – 19, 2025. Old friendships were renewed and new friendships were made. We had Callaway’s from Canada, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida, California, Missouri, Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Jersey, Texas, Georgia, Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, Arkansas, Colorado and more!
Besides learning more about Nashville we became much more knowledgeable about the Callaway Family history. Thanks to a beautiful book created by Nancie Rineer and given to all attendees. This wonderful treasure included historical articles from our Journals, photos and information captured from every past Journal. This book is destined to become an heirloom, to be passed from generation to generation.
Saturday morning our focus of our Genealogy meeting was Sources, Sources and How to Write Sources! Our CFA Genealogist, Jean Hurley, gave a wonderful presentation on how she sourced her soon-to-be-released book about Richard Calloway. This was followed by a short workshop on how to write, or cite, your evidence and what are considered primary and secondary sources. Finally, Harry Osborn gave us an update on the Callaway DNA Project. It was a wonderful morning of genealogy!
Most of our time was spent touring with each other and having a grand time. As Nashville is known as Music City USA, music was our theme. The Country Music Hall of Fame was a must, with visits to the Ryman Auditorium, the Parthenon and fly-by of Marathon Motors. And what interesting facts did we discover about Nashville Tennessee?
• The Ryman Auditorium is known as the Mother Church of Country Music as it was built as a worship center!
• You can take a boat ride along the Delta River in the Opryland Hotel
• The Grand Ole Opry began as a live country music radio broadcast originating in Nashville on WSM in 1925. As they celebrated 100 years, CFA celebrated 50!
• Nashville is known as the “Athens of the South”. Why? They have an exact replica of the Parthenon including a statue of Athena!
• The Grand Ole Opry began at the Ryman Auditorium in 1925 and was known as the WSM Barn Dance.
• A special place at the Capital building where you can walk across the state of Tennessee in under 6 minutes!
Our last event of the celebration was our annual dinner, attended by over 80 people! We were serenaded by a wonderful ensemble called “The Highland Jazz Machine”. Nancie passed out her book (with the new CFA logo!) to all attendees. At our Genealogy Workshop, everyone received a thumb drive with the updated book “Descendants of Joseph and Peter Callaway” that was created for our 25th Anniversary, the Census records for all Callaway’s from 1790-1930 which also includes a sample of all census records. Also included on the thumb drive are free research websites, genealogy research forms, presentations from the Genealogical Workshop and our newly released Sourced Peter Callaway Family Tree!
Our celebration dinner on Saturday night was attended by 16 first time attendees! Beautiful, donated quilts and numerous door prizes found new homes. And after 3 years of planning, the 50th Anniversary Planning Committee, led by Joe Cantley, was thanked for a job well-done. Hugs were given and everyone began planning the next annual meeting.
Updated Callaway Family Association Logo
Our CFA logo has been refreshed and updated! Many thanks to Joe and Barbara Cantley for having this latest version created and now available to us all.
Callaway Family Association
2026 Annual Meeting
October 8-11
LaGrange, Georgia
Hello Callaways,
Hope you are having a wonderful year and are looking forward to joining us in LaGrange in October. Many of you are saying what is in this little town in Georgia! Well, here is where the Callaway Family Association’s records, and 50 years worth of info is located. This is a genealogical dream come true!
Our plans are to have time for you to search the records, but even more to be “schooled” in the how to of researching for our specific records. Over the years the CFA gathered all the information and even sent three ladies to England, on 6 separate trips, to gather records and evidence. Yes, we have all of that for your perusal in LaGrange. At present we have arranged for help from the museum where these are located to come to our Thursday night dinner, present some info and then break up into groups so you can have some personal attention.
All of this to say, bring your questions and your documentation to help you make the connections within your own family to others in your lineage. I am encouraging you to start now and look at what you would like to find out, bring your computer with you so you can document as you like, and assure yourself that you can utilize and retrieve info at your own pace and needs. Bring a notebook so you can write it down, a phone or camera so you can take pictures, your 5 generation chart to complete! This is a rather unique opportunity that does not come often.
We will be staying at the Courtyard by Mariott in LaGrnge, which is only a few blocks from the hotel. We will provide opportunities for you to have time with the archives and people to help you on Friday and Saturday.
Oh no, some are thinking “is this all we are doing”? Of course not! If you know me really well, you know I cannot sit still too long! Located in LaGrange is the Hills & Dales estate built by a Callaway. There is a monument dedicated to a Callaway as well and another mansion that a Callaway gave to a local Women’s Society for their continued work in the area. This area is full of Callaway history and Georgia History. We will tour the museum and see some of the items donated over the years to the CFA.
We will visit the gorgeous estate that only Callaway’s have ever lived in. The grounds here are stunning. The town itself has a little of everything and lots of shops and restaurants.
A little taste of Georgia and what you may want to do while you are there. We will be sending out the registration around the beginning of June, but you can make your reservations now. You can call 706-668-5600 and mention CFA, Callaway Family Association. Our rate of $149 + taxes is good until 9/15/26 and is available October 7th-12th.
If you need anymore help, just drop me an email at badacantley@icloud.com.
Come to Georgia and find out which Callaway I am talking about!

By MAY 30, 2026 be sure to send us your Callaway ancestor story as we celebrate 250 years of Independence
The Callaway Family Association 2026 Journal is proud to announce that a primary focus will be on the 250th Anniversary of our country!
Let’s celebrate by sharing an article that tells us about your Callaway during the Revolutionary War timeframe, those living at the time of our Independence.
• Was your Callaway in the militia?
• Did your Callaway provide supplies for the troops?
• Maybe your Callaway was a female and had to negotiate being in charge of the farm and the children?
• Any interesting survival stories of their experiences during the war?
If you have sources feel free to cite your sources; if not, they are not necessary. There is no limit on size or length. A brief family line would be great to include with your article.
Please send to Lloyd Callaway, Journal Editor, at this email by MAY 30, 2026: lcallaway777@gmail.com.
